Golden Spike and Spiral Jetty

We have been having so much fun. Beware this may be a boring post to read all the way through but our vacation destinations come highly recommended. Why would I purposely make a boring blog for all to read? The question is simple. This is now my journal. I have never been good at writing in a journal and as I was looking through past blogs I thought "I wish I could just print this as my journal." So I used that idea and created a standard digital scrapbook page and have been copying and pasting pictures and text to make my blog my journal.

I have to give all credit to Daniel for coming up with the great ideas for this weekend. We have been going stir crazy all winter with the new baby and not being able to get out, and now we feel he is big enough and it is warm enough to take him out on adventures. Our first stop was the golden spike railroad Historic Site. Neat story and awesome replica trains (that actually work), but not much else there. Mostly just a plaque of where the last rain road tie was placed that connected the west to the rest of the United States. If you look in this picture down in front of Daniels feet is one newer piece of wood for the tie and that is the plaque. Before you look at the picture and wonder why it is so grainy after I just got a new SLR camera and am learning all about it, let me explain the horrible thing I did today. I was playing with the settings on my camera last night in my dark apartment and for those of you who understand I set the ISO to the highest setting and didn't change it back. Fortunately I did realize near the end of the day so some pictures turned out nice. I am keeping the others though because they documented our day.

My favorite part of the day and pretty much the remainder was spent at Spiral Jetty. This is an artists design out into the lake with the black molten rock that is all around.

It was about an hours drive on a 4-wheeling kind of road (sorry about the car mom :). When we first got there Chase was having non of this. He was tired and cold and mad.
(Again bad picture) But eventually he warmed up to the idea of being outside and looking around.
This really close into the distance of this picture and you will see the closest I have ever been to a tornado. (Can't you see the little twister in there???)

We took full advantage of the remote control on the camera and got some family shots.

We stopped for a quick visit at Thiacol on the way back so Daniel could see his rockets. (Too bad Smith and Edwards was closed or that would have been on the list as well.)
And then it was the two hour drive back home.

After a beautiful day in mostly sunshine ( a little snow here and there), what a shock to come home to this:

Hope you all had a good weekend as well!

Love the pictures, I can't even tell what you are talking about when you say those pictures were bad, but I am not even close to being a professional photographer either. I think they look great, and I think it is a great idea to make the blog a scrapbook.

That is a great picture of the night sky. I wondered how you were having so much fun when it was supposed to be snowing there, but I guess you got out away from the snow. How dare you have that much fun without us.
